Hilario elected AACCUP president anew

    MALOLOS CITY – Dr. Danilo Hilario of the Bulacan State University (BulSU) ws elected president of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) for the third time.

    As the current Vice President for Planning, Research and Extension of BulSU, Hilario was elected during the 22nd AACCUP national convention held at the Manila Hotel.

    He assumed the presidency of this quality assurance agency with a membership of 102 State Colleges and Universities (SUCs) late last year upon retirement of President Nelson Binag of the Sultan Kudarat Polytechnic College.

    Hilario started as a practitioner in accreditation visits in the 1990s and rose from the ladder of the agency as team leader, coordinator, training officer in many accreditation activities through out the country.

    He was elected trustee and served in various capacities as auditor, treasurer, vice president and president of the biggest accrediting agency for the state institutions of higher learning in the country today.

    As the president of AACCUP, he will attend the 2009 Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) Conference and Annual General Meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam on March 4 – 5, under the theme “Quality Assurance in Higher Education : Balancing the National Context and International Aspirations.”

    The General Department of Education Testing and Accreditation (GDETA) with support from the Ministry of Education and Training (MDET) of Vietnam is expected to host the event.

    Hilario will read a paper on the Quality Assurance Strategies as practiced in State Universities and Colleges in the Philippines during the parallel sessions to be attended by APQN member for Japan, China, Yemen, USA, Hong Kong, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Germany, Mongolia to name a few.

    Dr. Manuel Corpuz, former president of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMSU) who is also the Executive Director of AACCUP, will also attend the APQN conference.

    The seminar shall place special emphasis on the establishment and strengthening of internal quality assurance in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs), National and Regional Quality Assurance Networks, qualification frameworks Quality assurance strategies and issues, and quality assurance issues in open and distance learning.
