ANGELES CITY- The chief investigator of the killing of a campus beauty queen from the Holy Angel University (HAU) said yesterday probers are now monitoring the movements of a suspect amid three witnesses who have surfaced.
This, even as the HAU released yesterday a statement saying “the academic community of Holy Angel University is grieving the death of one of its students, Danielle Huet Conde, who is the current Miss Engineering and Architecture and a varsity player for the tae-kwon-do team.”
Conde, whose family hails from Capas, Tarlac, was fatally stabbed in the chest by a man who broke into her dormitory in Barangay Sto. Cristo at about 4:35 p.m. last Saturday, while she was listening to music via earphones.
Witnesses described the suspect as a male with semi-bald hair and was wearing blue pants and gray shirt with red stripes when he fled the crime scene on a mountain bike with orange rimmed tires. The suspect left behind a bag containing items stolen from other units in the apartment.
Investigator SPO3 Juanito Villamil said his team has already zeroed in on the “probable” suspect based on the information provided by the witnesses. “We are still waiting for another witness to surface, but we are keeping track of the movement of the suspect,” he said in a telephone interview.
Prof. Robbie Tantingco, vice president for external affairs of HAU, described the victim as “very pretty, very popular and quite active.”
He noted medical findings that Conde also had wounds in her arms, an indication that she had fought it out with her attacker.
After the incident, the suspect was noted to have fled on his mountain bike towards Barangay Lourdes Northeast and later was seen going towards the old railways.
Conde was rushed to the Angeles University Medical Center but doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.
“We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, classmates and teammates and pray for her eternal rest. We assure them that our administration officials are monitoring the investigation being conducted by the city’s police force. We pray that the assailant is brought to justice at the soonest possible time,” the HAU statement said.
