MAGALANG, Pampanga – “No other Pampanga governor had given that much attention to young women in need of love and support.”

Thus said officials of Barangay San Vicente here on Tuesday as Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda led the inauguration of the 40-bed dormitory and covered court at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Haven-Pampanga. It hosts 71 “women in difficult circumstances” who are from Pampanga and six other provinces in Central Luzon.

“I was a barangay captain in 1988 and no other governor had given this much attention to this facility except Pineda,” said San Vicente Barangay Captain Angeles Gonzales in the dialect.

Third District Board Member Trina Dizon, chairman of the committee on women and children, said the governor had allotted P2.5 million for Haven’s dormitory and court.

“We must help them rebuild their lives by re-orienting them on values. We thank the governor for leading the way,” said Dizon.

Vice Gov. Joseller “Yeng” Guiao also announced that he will donate a 60-inch flat television.

DSWD Undersecretary Flor Villar, who represented DSWD Sec. Dinky Soliman, expressed gratitude to Pineda.

She said the support of the provincial government “is crucial and important.”

“It’s only Governor Pineda who had given what we really need. She is really concerned,” said a 16-year-old girl who was one of the 50 residents from Pampanga.

Pineda said she will donate a service vehicle as they have been using an old vehicle.

Magalang Mayor Romy Pecson, Board Members Cris Garbo, Friztie David-Dizon and Tars Halili also graced the inauguration.
