ANGELES CITY – No less than the mayor of this highly urbanized city nabbed a criminal riding-in-tandem on a motorcycle when he chanced upon him grabbing the bag of a Korean national at around noon Monday along Sto. Rosario St. here.

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said he was on his way home at around noon time from the city hall and as he was about to turn right towards the subdivision where he resides, two criminals riding- in-tandem on a motorcycle grabbed the bag of the Korean national later identified as Kim Byung Ki, 33.

The mayor said his security escorts, headed by retired policeman Mario Nulud, immediately gave chase and caught up with the surprised duo. However, one of the robbers was able to elude arrest and made good his escape.

Pamintuan said he ordered his men to bring the arrested suspect, identified as Robinson P. Tionio, 31, to the Rafael Lazatin Medical Center to treat his wounds which he sustained when his motorcycle skidded and fell ending the chase.

Pamintuan said the other suspect who was able to elude arrest is already identified and goes by the moniker “Bato.” He urged victims of snatching incidents to identify the arrested suspect and file charges. Photos of the incident were posted on Facebook which was still trending as of press time yesterday.

Chief Insp. Kenneth Vega, chief of the nearby Police Station 1, took over the investigation after the mayor called him up. Recovered from the suspect was Kim’s bag containing a Samsung S3 smart phone and P15,000 cash.
