ANGELES CITY – Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) officials gave Pulung Maragul Village Chief Sonny Lao until 4:00 p.m. yesterday to vacate his post and the barangay hall as they were set to install dismissed Barangay Captain Joseph Dimapilis based on Court of Appeals (CA) order dated December 17.

Disclosing this to Punto, Dimapilis said he had been assured by DILG Regional Director Renato Brion and DILG city director Myrvi Fabia that he will assume his post yesterday.

“We just want to avoid violence as Lao and his people refused to leave his post,’ said Dimapilis. He was replaced by Lao who was appointed by Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno late last year after the Ombudsman issued an order affecting him and 9 others, including seven barangay councilors.

Dimapilis said “justice is served and they are the rightful leaders of Pulung Maragul.” He said the DILG and members of the Angeles City police had recognized him as the leader of Pulung Maragul since Tuesday when Brion failed to implement the order penned by Associate Justice Catral Mendoza.

In the CA order, Mendoza granted the appeal of Dimapilis’ legal counsel to allow him remain in his post while the cases were being resolved.

In an interview last Tuesday, Lao said he “will vacate his post once he is accorded all his legal rights and processes.”

“Matagal pa ‘yan bago ma-implement,” added Lao.

Supporters of Mapilis lashed at the DILG “for dillydallying in the implementation of the CA order.”

“They are expected to swiftly render the law and court orders but they do otherwise,” they added.

Punto tried but failed to get the statements of Brion and Fabia.
