MALOLOS CITY—Bulacan successfully staged the giant custard-filled bread called “inipit” yesterday in front of the provincial capitol building here, aimed at further pump priming local bakery industry.

This is the second giant bakery product staged by the provincial government in a week’s time. On Wednesday, a giant “ensaymada” measuring 40 feet in diameter was presented as part of the eight-day Singkaban Fiesta celebrations.

Weighing 1,500 kilos, the giant “inipit” measured 15 feet wide, 30 feet long and two inches thick.

It was also marked by a replica of the historic Barasoain Church.

Governor Joselito Mendoza led the ceremonial tasting together with Susan “Toots” Ople, the president of the Blas F. Ople Policy Center and Training Institute, and local officials of the province.

Mendoza said that the staging of the giant bakery products was not only meant to highlight the Singkaban Fiesta, but to further pump prime the local bakery industry.

He added that they want to replicate impact of staging the longest “pastillas” (carabao milk candy) last year that resulted in increased sales and production of local manufacturers.

“We are hoping that our bakeries will increase production this year as well,” he said.

The staging of the giant “inipit” cost the provincial government P350,000 for ingredients alone.

It was prepared by about 50 persons from six different bakeries in the province.

“Inipit’s” ingredients included 280.8 kilos of flour, 10.8 kilos of baking powder, 5.4 kilos of salt, 502.20 kilos of sugar, 18,000 pieces of eggs, 86.4 kilos of milk, and 972 kilos of butter.

For the giant “ensaymada,” the provincial government spent P350,000 for the ingredients like 270 kilos of milk, 54 kilos of yeast, 540 kilos of flour, 113.40 kilos of sugar, 5,400 pieces of eggs, 540 kilos of butter, and 8.10 kilos of cheese.
