BALANGA CITY — It was at last officially confirmed on Saturday that this province is officially under the general community quarantine status starting June 1.
Provincial information officer Angel Ortiz Luis said the provincial government was abiding with the decision of the national government that the province of 11 towns and a city is under GCQ beginningMonday.
President Duterte in a briefing announced that Metro Manila, Central Luzon provinces, Bataan among them, and some other areas have been placed from modified enhanced community quarantine to GCQ.
Luis made the announcement of Bataan being under a new quarantine status after social media pages wentabuzz with reports that Gov. Albert Garcia and mayors appealed for extension of MECQ to give way to mass testing.
Social media comments were varied, some favoring while others against the extension.
The reports said that the governor requested the national inter-agency task force to extend until June 15the MECQ status of Bataan while testing facilities for the coronavirus disease are about to operate.
Latest data from the provincial health office showed that there are 150 confirmed Covid–19 cases in the province with 134 recoveries and 8 deaths.
