ANGELES CITY- With the coming of the rainy season, the local government here through the City Health Office (CHO) pumps up its counter-disease mechanisms through the Anti-Dengue Task Force Group.
The group was created by the CHO with the primary purpose to spearhead and implement the Anti-Dengue Prevention and Control Programs of the city.
The task force is composed of five Sanitation Inspectors and City Health Personnel that is being supervised by the City Health Officer.
Furthermore, the team serves as the front liner in the campaign and fight against the killer dengue disease and other vector borne diseases. According to City Health Officer, Dr. Lenario Santos, dengue cases in Angeles City went down by almost 60% this year compared to last year due to the propagation of the Anti-Dengue Task Force group’s campaign.
“We are proud to say that the total dengue incidents in Angeles City decreased from 1,094 cases in June 2016, 327 in June 2017, to just 127 cases in June 2018”, said Dr. Santos.
The group has been undertaking regular misting operations in the 33 barangays and public schools of Angeles City.
Moreover, the launching of a Barangay Anti-Dengue Task Force in every villages aided in educating residents on how to prevent dengue.
For his part, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, reminded the Angeleños to maintain the cleanliness in the community most especially in their households to avoid these infections.
The mayor also stressed the importance of Department of Health’s (DOH) anti-dengue advocacy drive summarized as 4S: [1] Search and Destroy, [2] Self protection, [3] Seek early consultation, and [4] Say NO to indiscriminate fogging.
“As what the American historian and social activist, Howard Zinn once said, ‘Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people can transform the world.’ I urge the Angeleños to be mindful of the environment especially in this rainy season,” said Pamintuan Dengue is a fatal mosquito borne-disease mainly affecting children.
It is common in tropical countries and has been a nationwide concern in the Philippines.
