CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) turned over a total of three multipurpose buildings (MPBs) to barangays in Cabanatuan City.
Recipient villages include Bakod Bayan, Macatbong, and Calawagan.
DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad said two of these MPBs will function as barangay Halls serving the local communities of Macatbong and Calawagan while the third will be utilized as a health facility, specifically as a lying-in center in Bakod Bayan.
The P14.4-million worth of infrastructure projects will provide a convenient venue for delivering essential public services within the said barangays.
“These projects play an essential role in community development, governance, and service delivery. They symbolize the community’s identity and serve as a source of pride, strengthening the sense of belonging among residents,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bakod Bayan Punong Barangay Simeona Causon shared that the new facility will greatly assist in delivering health services to residents, especially pregnant women.
“Kasi po yung manganganak po nasa motor, inaabutan po sila ng panganganak dahil napakalayo po ng ospital. Kung mayroon po kasing [health facility], napakalaking ginhawa po sa amin,” she shared.
As for Calawagan Punong Barangay Joey Tucay, their new barangay hall will create safe spaces for dealing with matters concerning Violence Against Women, making their community feel more secure.
These projects were implemented through the agency’s Basic Infrastructure Program that was funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2023. (CLJD-PIA 3)
