BALANGA CITY — A two-day seminar centered on the proper handling of persons with disabilities   and senior citizens visiting the mall was held Aug. 15 and 17 at the SM City Bataan

SM City Bataan public relations officer Paula Erika Gayeta said the seminar which focused on effectively managing the needs of PWDs and senior citizens was conducted by SM City Bataan in partnership with the provincial social welfare and development office and the Public Employment Services Office-Bataan.

“The event aimed to enlighten participants about the significance of treating the vulnerable groups with respect, empathy, and understanding. It enhanced awareness on the problems faced by PWDs and senior citizens and offered solutions to address their unique requirements,” Gayeta said.

In attendance were mall tenant employees, janitorial staff and security personnel of SM City Bataan.

Mark Joriel De Leon, assistant mall manager, said that all mall-goers are always welcome and these include PWDs and senior citizens. He noted the importance of mall employees participating in the seminar. “It enables each employee to excel in their role by delivering excellent customer service to all.”

Some information and laws concerning PWDs were shared by Rolando Cortez, consultant of the provincial council on disability affairs committee; Leonarda Parra, president of Samahan ng Taong may Kapansanan sa Bataan; Rommel Arellano, guidance counselor and PWD advocate; and Eugene Kenneth Carandang, PWD affairs officer of PSWDO.

Gayeta said the participants were presented with statistical data and real-life anecdotes that shed light on the challenges the PWDS and senior citizens often confront, regarding issues of physical accessibility and societal acceptance.

“The insights shared during this seminar inspire the participants to actively collaborate, advocate and implement supportive measures that cater to the needs of the PWDs and senior citizens. SM City Bataan is poised to create a more compassionate and accessible space where everyone enjoys equal opportunities and dignified care,” she concluded.
