BUSTOS, Bulacan — Heavy rains induced by Typhoon Egay and Habagat increased the water elevation of Bustos Dam prompting the release of more than 700 cubic meter of water as of 4 p.m. today on the downstream of the Angat River system.

Manuel Lukban Jr., chief of the provincial disaster risk reduction management office, advised residents living near the river system, particularly in low-lying areas in the towns of Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliwag, Pulilan, Plaridel, Calumpit, Paombong, and Hagonoy to be on the alert for the possible rise in the river system water elevation.

Based on the monitoring of the PDRRMO, the water elevation of the Bustos today is 17.44 meters while its spilling level is 17.35 meters.

With the big volume of water coming from the 80 cubic meter per second (CMS) release of Ipo Dam and the local upstream river flow, Bustos Dam’s Sluice Gates 1 and 2 were raised three meters high each while Sluice Gate 3 was raised at two meters high and its Rubber Gate No. 3 was deflated.

Sluice Gates 1 and 2 have been discharging a total of 156 CMS, Sluice Gate 3 at 56 CMS while the deflated Rubber Gate No. 3 is releasing 525 CMS for a total discharge of 737 CMS.
