ABUCAY, Bataan – Police on Tuesday reported the discovery of a World War II fragmentation
hand grenade at a river here Sunday.

Major Dennis Bautista Duran, Abucay police chief, said a woman washing clothes informed
police of seeing the vintage grenade in Ray Hill Bridge at the Roman superhighway in Barangay
Mabatang.

The grenade apparently was washed out of the riverbed due to heavy rains the previous nights.
Duran said he sent a team to the place to validate the information and subsequently cordoned
and secured the area and informed the explosives ordnance division (EOD) of the Bataan
provincial police office.

He said that an EOD team led by Chief Master Sgt. Christopher Sambat proceeded to the area
and described the unexploded ordnance as an MK2 hand grenade which was commonly used
by the Filipino–American forces during WWII.

Duran said that the EOD team cautioned those finding such grenade not to tinker with it and
immediately report it to the police for it is still dangerous.
