CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Soldiers from the Armed Forces Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) rescued last Saturday at least 40 passengers of four buses which were caught by a sudden swell of floodwaters along a highway in Camiling, Tarlac last Saturday.

This, even as PO2 Dave Canlas of the police of San Simon, Pampanga said barangay councilor Wesley Mayuyu of San Juan in the town remained missing  after he was swept by strong flood currents in his barangay at about 5 p.m. Saturday.

Canlas said that Mayuyu vanished in the strong flood currents after his boat, loaded with relief goods he was supposed to distribute to families stranded on rooftops, overturned. Two of his companions were rescued by residents.

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) meanwhile debunked yesterday reports that 40 passengers of buses were swept off by sudden flood currents that swept a highway in Camiling, Tarlac last Saturday.

“The floodwaters rose to the level of the seats of the buses but the passengers used their cellphones to seek help. Nolcom soldiers arrived and rescued all the passengers,” said PIA information officer Roel Lazaro.
