SAMAL, Bataan – The local government unit here announced Monday that the irrigation problem of farmers aired recently by an irrigators’ group has been attended to.
Mayor Aida Macalinao said members of the Imelda Irrigators Service Association apprised her of their problems, most especially in the lack of irrigation for their crops.
The mayor said she has assigned agriculture as her top priority in her desire to place the town as an agro-tourism spot and a food basket in Bataan.
“Para maabot ito, prayoridad kong tulungan at alagaan ang ating mga magsasaka. Maglalaan ang lokal na pamahalaan ng budget upang matugunan ang mga problema ng magsasaka,” Macalinao said.
She added that she has met with SunSmart that will supply the municipality with solar panels as energy source for the irrigation of farms. “Isa sa mga misyon ng lokal na pamahalaan ay matugunan ang problema sa patubig sa pamamagitan ng solar farming,” she said.
The mayor also disclosed that she also immediately conferred with the National Irrigation Authority with the assistance of 1st District Rep. Geraldine Roman on how the Tangilad Dam can be of more help to members of the Imelda Irrigators Service Association and other farmers in the area.
The mayor said the rehabilitation of the dam has been funded by the national government for P90 million and the project is already ongoing with P30 million for road networks and P60 million for desilting and revetment.
