SM Foundation helps 5,700 families hit by floods in Pampanga, Bulacan

    CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI) has conducted a week-long outreach programs, benefitting at least 5,700 families from Pampanga and Bulacan affected by the recent floods.

    In a statement sent on August 10, the SMFI headed by assistant vice president Cristie Angeles said they led efforts in helping flood victims of Pampanga through its “Operation Tulong Express”.

    The SMFI was assisted by SM Cares and SM Supermalls and supported by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Director Adelina Apostol.

    The families at the evacuation centers at the San Fernando Elementary School and San Isidro Integrated School here were among the recipients.

    Other evacuees who received help were in Barangay Lagundi in Mexico town, San Simon and Masantol towns and Calumpit in Bulacan. The foundation’s project ended Sunday.

    Living by the motto “People helping people.” SM Foundation, the socio-civic arm of the SM Group of Companies, launched the Operation Tulong Express last week.

    Its charity campaign started last Tuesday in SM City Pampanga, SM City San Fernando, SM Savemore Apalit and at other SM malls.

    The SMFI conducts charity projects all year round said the SM Pampanga public relations office.

    The foundation has four areas of advocacy: Education through scholarship programs and donations of schoolhouses; Health-oriented projects such as medical missions and assistance for mobile clinics and hospital activity centers; Religious community projects and mall-based outreach programs.
