PORAC, Pampanga – “This is a beautiful project for the sake of the people. We appeal to the councilor not to derail it.”

Thus said Vice Mayor Dexter David as he urged Councilor Mike Tapang to cooperate in their “ardent wish and supreme mission” to create the first-ever state university in the town. It will be an extension of the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) in Porac.

David and Mayor Condralito De La Cruz stressed that the DHVTSU extension will be the “springboard of the people to jump over poverty.”

David said that the “points and amendments” raised by Tapang before the Provincial Board (PB) had been tackled and addressed in their recent meetings.

“It’s on record via minutes of the meetings that concerns raised by Councilor Tapang had been addressed.

Why mention them again? It derails the project,” said David before their meeting with majority of the barangay captains at the residence of Councilor Bestre David.

But the vice mayor assured Tapang that his concerns will be properly addressed, including the scholarship program for the people of Porac.  David said that under the law on establishment of state university, at least 135 scholarship grants will be given to residents.

    MARKET PROPONENT

David and De La Cruz said Tapang was against the establishment of DHVTSU because his proposal to create a P250-million public market and mall was turned down by the mayor.

De La Cruz said he agreed with Tapang’s plan because it was under a Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) scheme.

He later turned it down after Tapang asked him to seek a loan for the proposed market-mall.

“Porac will be under debt for over 25 years amounting to more than P400 million. This is not a good proposition,” he added.
