ANGELES CITY – A 35-year-old barangay captain will likely be the next president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) here.

This was according to village chiefs who were interviewed during their recent mass oath-taking at Clark.

They disclosed that Pulung Maragul Village Chief Joseph “Jojo” Dimapilis will take the ABC post “as no other candidate could muster enough votes.”

Dimapilis is a close ally of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan who became a barangay captain last year following the murder of Pulung Maragul Barangay Captain Edilberto Cayanan.

Asked about his chances in getting the ABC post, Dimapilis said “I hope I win.” He said his mission once he gets the post is “to be the bridge of the barangay captains to the mayor.

Earlier, Balibago Barangay Captain Rodelio “Tony” Mamac expressed his intention to run for ABC and be the ex-officio member of the city council. But he backed out weeks before the election set in the middle of December.

A source said Pamintuan had met with Dimapilis, Mining Barangay Chief Ceferino Nunag and other village chiefs to discuss the ABC elections.

Nunag, a close ally of First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin, is also eyeing the ABC post.

But the same source admitted that “Dimapilis is almost sure to be the next ABC due to the support of the mayor. On the other hand, he added, Lazatin had stayed “neutral.
