ANGELES CITY – Former multi-term congressman and three-time city mayor, Balibago Barangay chairman Carmelo “Tarzan” Feliciano Lazatin is dead at 84.

According to Dr. Vic Lugue, family physician and long-time friend of Lazatin, at around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, he collapsed and hit his head on the floor after suffering a heart attack at home.

Lugue said he was not able to bring Lazatin to the hospital anymore. He said they brought Lazatin’s body to the La Pieta Crematorium for cremation which was his wish.

“Just last night we were talking about how he wanted to go,” Lugue said. “Kamate ku eku buri ing viewing ana (If I die, I don’t like viewing),” was how Lugue quoted Lazatin on his wish on the eve of his death.

Lugue said after the cremation, Lazatin’s ashes will be brought to Carmelite Monastery Chapel where his family, relatives, friends and supporters can pay their last respects.

Born on June 28, 1934 in this city, Lazatin was the son of former city mayor Rafael Lazatin who also served as Pampanga governor and member of the Batasang Pambansa.

Lazatin became a representative of the first district of Pampanga (Angeles and Mabalacat cities and Magalang town) from 1987 to 1998, and then from 2007 to 2013. In between his congressional terms, he served as mayor from 1998 to 2007.

He won as barangay captain of Barangay Balibago in the 2017 barangay polls.

Lazatin sons, Carmelo II is incumbent congressman of the 1st District and Carmelo Jr. is incumbent city councilor running for the city mayorship in elections next year.
