MALOLOS CITY—A group of broadcast journalism students from Holy Angel University (HAU) in Pampanga bagged the grand prize in the first short film contest organized by the Tollways Management Corporation (TMC).

They are followed by a former student from Bulacan State University and another student based in Manila.

Aimed at promoting road safety, the said competitions drew entries from students from different colleges and universities in Central Luzon and Metro Manila. Francisco Dagohoy, the media relations specialist of TMC, said they received a total of 11 entries for “Biyahe,” the first short film competition for North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx).

Kelvin Aguilar’s “U-Turn” bested all other entries for grand prize. A broadcast journalism student from HAU in Angeles City, Aguilar received a plaque of appreciation, P25,000 in cash, and other gift certificates.

His entry is followed by Angelo Mariano’s “Dapat Sana,” and Gerlyn Altura’s “Mulat.” Both Mariano and Altura received a plaque of appreciation, gift certificates and cash prizes of P15,000 and P10,000 respectively.

Bobby Bontia, TMC vice president for toll operations, said the contest is timely and reinforces their advocacy on road safety. He said that the contest was open to young film makers because they will be drivers in the future.

Bontia also said they are looking forward to more participants in the next edition of the short fi lm contest.

“We hope to have more young film makers like you next year,” he said. The other participants who received gift certificates as consolations prizes were Joemarie Caluag for “Biyahe Love Story,” Cesar Macaspac of “Bots,” Dane Celestine Capanas (Busina), Sherlyn Umali (Gulong), Jeniffer Bautista (Impo), Jessie Joy Antonio (Road Trip), Lee Albert Pacheo (Susi) and David Segundo who produced and directed “White board.”

The Biyahe short film contest is supported by Philex Mining Corporation, RCBC, Marquee Mall, Easytrip Services, Jollibee and Dental Gallery.
