ORANI, Bataan- AboitizPower has funded for P24 million a mangrove project here and another P13.4M for the Sagip Pawikan venture in Morong or a total of P37.4M in the two towns in Bataan.
The projects were the subject of two memoranda of agreement entered into Monday by AboitizPower, through private limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD).
The first MOA covers the seven-year Orani Mangrove Experimental Forest project. It has expanded AboitizPower’s adopted mangrove area by 12 hectares in Barangay Kabalutan, bringing the total adopted mangrove area to 32 hectares.
The second agreement extends the Sagip Pawikan Conservation and Protection project in Morong for another five years.
GMEC – GNPD Vice President for Corporate Services Andrea Mellind Madrid, representing AboitizPower, Tubo – Tubo Fisherfolks Association in Orani chairperson Rosana Laxa, and Sagip Pawikan Sitio Fuerte Association in Morong president Arnold Mendoza, signed the MOA.
DENR Region 3 assistant director Ricky Hernandez, Bataan !st district Cong. Tony Roman, provincial administrator Alice Pizarro, Morong Mayor Leila Linao-Munoz and Orani Mayor Antonio Arizapa, Jr., were the other signatories.
“To our partners in DENR, the province and our LGU, maraming salamat po for trusting us. Hindi namin ito magagawa ng kami lang. At sa mga volunteers, kayo talaga ang puso ng programang ito,” Madrid said.
“At the end of the day, this is how we define progress. Hindi lang sa pagbibigay ng kuryente kundi sa malasakit. One mangrove, one pawikan, one community at a time.” Madrid added. (30)
