CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC) has assured assistance to victims of an alleged illegal housing scheme in Magalang, Pampanga.
SHFC president and CEO Federico Laxa said the agency is ready to extend legal assistance, including the assignment of lawyers, to over 1,500 individuals who were allegedly victimized by the group behind the illegal collection of payments for the supposed housing project called Sto. Niño Residences Homeowners’ Association, Inc.
Although the said project is not registered with SHFC and no application was submitted to the agency, Laxa assured that SHFC’s doors remain open to provide them with proper information and the necessary assistance.
“They only need to coordinate with us, and we will wholeheartedly address their complaints,” Laxa said. “They are victims, and we want them to obtain justice for what was done to them.”
Laxa added that the agency will also assist victims in coordinating with other government offices such as the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development and the National Bureau of Investigation for the appropriate action.
The SHFC intervention came in the wake of complaints regarding individuals allegedly posing as representatives and using the name of SHFC to promote the supposed housing project while collecting payments.
Based on reports, tarpaulins bearing SHFC’s name were even displayed announcing an alleged groundbreaking activity for the project, despite having no permission or authorization from the agency.
As this developed, Laxa again enjoined the public to remain vigilant and to ensure that housing projects undergo proper verification to avoid falling victim to unscrupulous individuals.
