BALANGA CITY – Former teen star Juan Miguel Bondoc aka Onemig Bondoc for reason apparently known only to himself withdrew on Tuesday afternoon his Certificate of Candidacy for the position of congressman of Bataan’s second district, the provincial supervisor of the Commission on Elections in Balanga City announced Wednesday.

Lawyer Gilbert Almario, provincial Comelec head, said Bondoc personally appeared in his office at 2:50 in the afternoon and filed his affidavit of withdrawal.

As to the former actor’s reason for withdrawing, Almario said the law does not require it. “Ang requirement lamang ay personal na mag-submit ng affidavit of withdrawal at ito ang ginawa niya,” the election supervisor said.

He said he immediately faxed the affidavit to the Comelec law department so Bondoc’s name will be excluded from the official ballot.

As to the disqualification case filed against Bondoc, the lawyer said it was still being decided by a division of the poll body in Manila. “Enough na naman itong withdrawal niya para officially hindi na siya kandidato,” Almario said.

Bondoc filed his COC under the Aksiyon Demokratiko Party last October 5, last day of filing of candidacy.

A case for disqualification for alleged lack of residency requirement in Mariveles, Bataan was filed against him.

With his withdrawal from the race, left vying for the congressional post in the second district are political giants former Gov. Leonardo Roman under the Nationalist People’s Coalition and third termer Gov. Enrique Garcia of the People’s United Party.
