BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales’ daughter considers his father “very patriotic and should not be feared of using the might of the Armed Forces of the Philippines for personal gains.”

Lawyer Marie Gonzales said her father would like to be the one to reply to any attack on his reputation. However, she loves him dearly and will as well answer if given the chance.

“My father will never do anything na mali, kasinungalingan o paninira sa bayan, masiyado siyang patriotic and he is doing his job well,” the young Gonzales said of her father, also national security adviser.

She dispelled insinuations that the AFP will be used to make her win as candidate for congressman in Bataan’s second district or of any other candidates both for local or national positions.

The 32-year old Gonzales of the Partido Demokratiko Sosyalita ng Pilipinas (PDSP) is slugging it out with re-electionist Rep. Albert Garcia, 40, of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD, in the May 10 elections. Sec. Gonzales heads the PDSP.

The young Gonzales and Garcia will vie for the votes of more than 260,000 registered voters in the City of Balanga and the towns of Pilar, Orion, Limay, Mariveles and Bagac.

“Ang AFP hindi naman kailangan kung walang gulo kaya madalas kong sabihin sa ating mga kasama na magkaka-problema lang kung gagawa ng masama,” she said.

On the political dynasty issue, the lawyer said that a thing becomes an issue if discussed by the people. “Sa tingin ko, ang mga taong-bayan ay medyo nababagabag na sa political dynasty kaya I consider it already an issue this coming election,” Gonzales said.

She said she believes that all people should be given the chance to serve the country and should not be the monopoly of one family.

On her first bill in congress should she win, Gonzales said her first concern will be about the rights of children. “Kailangan ang fine tuning sa batas ng adoption lalo na kung ang mag-aampon ay ang msmong biological parents”.

She said a child should not be sacrificed in the tedious process of the present system of adoption if the biological parent wants him/her to become legitimate.

Marie got married only last November to another lawyer Nicolo Molina.
