SUBIC BAY FREEPORT ZONE (PIA) — The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) was named Outstanding Government Agency for Special Economic Zone Management at the Legacy Awards 2025 held at Okada Manila.

The recognition emphasizes SBMA’s role in sustaining livelihoods and generating revenues that directly benefit workers and local government units surrounding the Subic Bay Freeport.

SBMA Chairperson and Administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño said the state firm’s mandate remains to create jobs and contribute to national growth.

“Our mandate has never changed. We continue to employ the Filipino masses while generating income that the national government can utilize in building a better and brighter Bagong Pilipinas. What has changed is our desire to do more,” he said.

Data from SBMA’s 2024 accomplishment report show that ₱3.07 billion in dividends were remitted to the national government, placing the agency 7th among the top government-owned and controlled corporations.

In the same year, SBMA distributed ₱347 million in revenue shares to seven municipalities and one city adjacent to the Freeport.

Infrastructure and social projects are also underway. These include Subic Bay Residencias, a socialized housing project for Freeport workers, as well as a dormitory, introduction of electric vehicles, and ongoing facility improvements inside the zone.

Accepting the award on behalf of Aliño, SBMA Senior Deputy Administrator for Support Services Ramon Agregado said the recognition is a call to further strengthen services for stakeholders.

“We accept this [award] as a constant reminder for us to improve our craft in order to provide excellent service and the best quality of life for our stakeholders,” Agregado said.
