CABANATUAN CITY – Top ranking police and mall security officials lauded the alertness and event preparedness exhibited by personnel of SM City Cabanatuan and SM Megacenter during the Joint Tactical Inspection (JTI) at East Open Parking Area of SM City Cabanatuan here on Tuesday.

Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office director Col. Ferdinand Germino and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. Security Affairs head Almus Alabe were all praises to 27 security and agency personnel accorded with recognition “for their acts of honesty, particularly for returning lost valuables to mall customers.”

In the course of their duty, such personnel have separately found and at once returned valuables, ranging from mobile phones to considerable amount of cash.

They were tagged as “everyday heroes.”

“Ito ay aming isinasagawa to ensure na lahat ng mga frontliners natin, na magkakasama ‘yung security, janitorial, maintenance, para sa mga customers natin araw-araw ay sila ay handa ay handa palagi sa mga challanges na nahaharap natin at nai-encounter araw-araw,” Alabe said.

SM branches nationwide welcome a daily average of five million customers, he said.

The JTI, he stressed, was designed to upscale the awareness and vigilance in serving and attending to the needs not only in security and safety but also in cases of medical and other assistance.

For his part, Germino vowed to continue extending help to further upgrade security preparations in times of need. “Tayo ay tutugon sa kanila ring mga kahilingan about security matters at tulungan sila na maiangat pa ang security preparations sa lahat ng antas ng seguridad dito sa SM City.”

The event brought together mall security personnel for a comprehensive inspection of firearms, uniforms, and operational readiness, capped off by a parade and formation that showcased discipline and coordination among the ranks. The inspection aims to ensure that all security team members are equipped with the alertness, training, and skills needed to protect the thousands of mall-goers who visit daily.

“This is more than just protocol,” said Alabe. “It’s about building confidence—not just in our team, but in the safety of our community.”

“These security guards are often our first responders,” Germino noted. “Their role in keeping the peace and ensuring public safety, especially in public spaces like malls, cannot be overstated.”

The tactical inspection stood as both a training exercise and a celebration—one that reflects SM’s ongoing effort to provide not just a place to shop, but a space where people feel truly safe. Contributed photos
