CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here said five candidates for sangguniang kabataan posts were disqualified for allegedly misdeclaring their ages in their bid to qualify for the elections.

The regional Comelec office here said that only youths aged from 18 to 24 are qualified to run for SK posts, but the five were either underaged or overaged.

The office named the disqualified candidates as Alvin Sierra of Barangay San Agustin in Carangglan, Nueva Ecija who was running for SK kagawad, and five others running for SK chairpersons, namely Rommel Mendoza of Barangay Villa Aurora in Ma. Aurora town in Aurora province; Godofredo Pernia of Barangay Cutcult, in Pulilan, Bulacan; Christian Bondoc of Barangay Matatalahib in Tarlac City; and Jason de la Cruz of Barangay Salapungan in Angeles City.

Comelec assistant director for Central Luzon Elmo Roque said the election personnel in their respective barangays were told not to count their votes, amid plans to file appropriate charges against them.

This, as he described the barangay elections in Central Luzon as generally peaceful, with violations largely limited to distribution of campaign materials at the polling centers.
