CLARK FREEPORT – A total of 4,999 cyclists showed up as dawn broke in this freeport to beat the Guinness record of 1,186 bikers who had cycled the longest single lane in Bangladesh. Despite the huge number, the attempt here failed.
Clark Development Corp. (CDC) tourism chief Noemi Garcia said Guinness World Record officials who arrived here for the attempt dubbed “Trinx Creating History: A world record breaking event,” noted the failure of participants to observe the required distance between cyclists which was a maximum of the length of one bicycle.
Organizers had initially planned to repeat the attempt, but many cyclists had already departed after learning that they did not make it to the Guinness record, she noted. A second attempt, with lesser cyclists, reportedly also failed to comply with Guinness requirements.
Guinness World Record adjudicator Peter James Fairbairn flew into the country to witness and judge the event. Still, CDC information officer Eric Jimenez said the event was “an unprecedented gathering of bikers from various cycling communities in the country in a bid to break the record of 1,186 bikers established in 2016 in Bangladesh.”
“While the attempt to break the record may have failed, the event is considered as an unprecedented gathering of sports enthusiasts in Clark, which comprised peer groups, bike clubs, various organizations and even families,” he said.
CDC president Noel Manankil thanked the organizers and participants as he vowed to fully develop the event’s venue at the Clark picnic grounds to make it more conducive to biking and other sports activities.
The event was organized by Trinx Bikes in partnership with CDC, Department of Tourism, CST Tires International, and National Bicycle Organization to unite the cycling industry in the country.
The cyclists belonged to 235 bikers groups from Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Bulacan, Zambales and Pampanga. The Cupcake Bikers Group of actor Gardo Versoza also participated.
