Through their National Federation president Jane Censoria del Rosario-Cajes from Bohol, youth councils from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao converged in this Freeport zone to tackle the different perspectives, and formulate projects and programs particularly those that are beneficial to the youth.

Nineteen years old Jane Censoria del Rosario-Cajes said that this year’s theme “Thinking Green” focuses on the youths’ participation in the protection and preservation of the environment.

“The country has been bombarded with calamities and typhoons so we will create the SK’s “Task Force Kalikasan” to promote response and readiness  capabilities among the youth sector.

Ms. Cajes said last year, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo released the amount of P10-million to support the different projects of the SK.  “Hopefully, the President will give the SK additional financial support this year,” she added.

Her Excellency will be the keynote speaker on the 2nd day of the Youth Congress.

Other guests include Secretary Ronaldo Puno of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and Secretary Gilbert Teodoro of the Department of National Defense, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Administrator Armand Arreza and presidential candidates Manny Villar, Richard Gordon and Chiz Escudero.

On this occasion, the President will award twenty (20) Outstanding Sangguniang Kabataan members whose achievements and projects created an impact beneficial to their localities.

“We were promised a demonstration of the automation process by the Commission on Election (Comelec) in one of the sessions,” Cajes added.

The youth council will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Disaster Coordinating Council in relation to the youth’s participation and readiness trainings in time of disasters and calamities.
