3 hurt in ‘caterpillar’ ride derailment

MASINLOC, Zambales – A two-year-old boy and two others suffered serious injuries when a caterpillar coaster ride at a carnival in Barangay South Poblacion here derailed last Oct. 28.

Major Johnathan Bardaje, town police chief, identified those injured as Gero Reign Ulao y Pang-Ay, 2, and Rosalind Ulao y Senica, 24, both residents of Barangay Bani; and Carla Mae Calbonge y Calub, 23, of Sitio Mandaloy, Barangay Taltal, all in Masinloc.

Report said that about 10:30 p.m., the victims were on the caterpillar and almost at the end of rotation when the operator “accelerated the speed until the seats broke due to the force and the three victims were thrown and fell to the ground approximately six feet.”

All the victims were rushed to the rural health unit for medical treatment.

“Yung mga biktima dadalhin sa Chinese General Hospital, gusto ni mayora na maging maayos yong kalagayan nila bago sila umuwi,” said Bardaje.

The police have formally filed a case of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Multiple Physical Injuries at the Office of Provincial Prosecutors, Bulwagan ng Katarungan, Iba, Zambales against Jay-Ar Salvador Navarro, 22, operator of RUF Carnival and resident of Barangay Abogado, Panique, Tarlac.

The operator is now temporarily detained at Masinloc MPS after he reportedly waived his rights provided under Article 125 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Section 12 (1) Article lll of the Philippine Constitution.
