MARIVELES, Bataan — A driver and his live-in partner and a bystander died when the wing truck loaded with soya the couple were riding hit two concrete electric posts, some trees and a concrete wall of a house at the side of a funeral home adjacent to the Roman Highway here Wednesday night.
Police identifi ed the fatalities as Gerardo Ignacio, 45, driver of the wing truck and his live-in-partner Loida Centillan, both of Tarlac; and Jasper Unzone, 42, of Mariveles. Slightly hurt was the three year-old granddaughter of the couple who was with them in the wing truck.
Unzone was reportedly looking after a dead relative and just went outside the funeral parlor to breathe fresh air when bumped by the truck at past 9 p.m.
The wing truck bound for Bulacan from Mariveles also crashed into a dilapidated passenger jeepney, hit a van and a motorcycle, all parked along the crash site.
The front portion of the truck was a total wreck after hitting the concrete wall of the house. Samson Gucayane, security guard of the funeral parlor, said the truck felled the electric post and a tree in front of their office.
Electric supply was cut in Barangay Mt. View where the accident happened and nearby villages from past 9 p.m. of Wednesday to late Thursday.
“Ipit na ipit ang driver kaya dead on the spot. Ang tumama yung mukha niya,” the security guard said. He added that the child was buried on sacks of soya and was crying when rescuers found her.
Police said investigation was still going on.
