MARIVELES, Bataan — The Bataan Maritime Police on Thursday reported the apprehension of a boat skipper and 12 crew members of a commercial fishing vessel along the waters off Mariveles on Wednesday.
Major Leoncio P. Alcantara, Jr., chief of the maritime police station in Mariveles, said the suspects were arrested while conducting illegal fishing more or less three kilometers from the shoreline of the sea in Barangay Alas-Asin.
He said that confiscated were 35 kilos assorted fish, 150 fish tubs, 200 meters fishing net, boat engine and fishing banca.
Report showed that Patrolmen Erick Idos and Dexter Pacaro onboard a rented motorized banca conducted seaborne patrol operation at the seawaters off Mariveles that resulted to the interception of fishing boat Migo skippered by Rolando Tria, 62, of Barangay Lamao, Limay, Bataan with 12 crews.
The suspects and the confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to the Bataan Maritime Police station for proper documentation and disposition.
Alcantara said the suspects face cases for unauthorized fishing in violation of Section 86 and use of fine mesh net under Section 93 of RA 10654.
