CLARK FREEPORT — This vast freeport, nearby Mabalacat City and parts of three towns in Pampanga are slated to experience a 12-hour power outage on Dec. 1, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced yesterday.

NGCP regional corporate communications and public affairs chief Ernest Lorenzo said the shutdown of transmission facilities would affect areas served by the Pampanga Electric Cooperative (Pelco) 1 and 2, the Pampanga Rural Electric Service Cooperative, Inc., and the Clark Electric Distribution Corp.

Apart from this freeport where hundreds of factories, offices, and tourism establishments are to be affected, and Mabalacat City, the other areas include parts of the towns of Arayat, Mexico, and Magalang, Lorenzo said.

He said the power outage would last from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The shutdown would be “to facilitate the annual preventive maintenance of power equipment at Mexico substation and transfer of Pelco 2-Mabiga load simultaneous with line maintenance works along Mexico-Clark line 1 and 2 69kV line.”

Last October in the aftermath of Typhoon Lando, daylong power failure triggered by felled electric lines caused massive losses among firms in Clark Freeport Gas stations reported shortage of diesel fuel amid demands from firms running electric generators. Clark hosts two large hospitals, as well as world-class resorts.
