CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Some 200 construction workers in Pampanga have received protective gears from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Central Luzon Occupational Safety and Health Network (CLOSHNET) during the observance of 2013 World Safety Day.

DOLE Regional Director Raymundo Agravante said the observance started with the motorcade in six construction sites around this city which was participated in by more than 50 safety officers and practitioners from different companies in Central Luzon.

“In every site, we gave away personal protective equipment which contained gloves, face mask, towel, and alcohol,” he said.

Agravante noted that “World Safety Day is an awareness-raising campaign intended to focus international attention on emerging trends in the field of occupational safety and health and on the magnitude of work-related injuries, diseases, and fatalities.”

Activities this year were anchored on the theme “Prevention of Occupational Accidents and Diseases.”

The commemoration also included a short symposium wherein CLOSHNET Vice President Jeanne Tiangha-Gonzales presented an overview of the International Labor Organization’s (ILO) report on “Prevention of Occupational Diseases.”

In the symposium, Gawad Kaligtasan sa Kalusugan (GKK) awardee Eusebio Timario Jr. highlighted the “best safety and health practices of Petron San Fernando depot.

The affair ended with a candle-lighting and prayer ceremony to honor the victims of occupational accidents and diseases.
