Yeen, a history teacher at Holy Angel University (HAU) high school department, said the topic of the writing contest is “100 scholars per barangay doable or impossible in Angeles City.”
“This is my way of encouraging people, especially the young ones, to value writing and education as well. This contest may also encourage leaders to set aside huge amount of funds for free quality education,” he said.
Yeen, in the same interview, also disclosed the distribution of free medicines to his people since last week.
Some P10,000 will be given to the winners in the contest sponsored by Salapungan, he said.
The grand prize is pegged at P5,000, while the runner-up and third-place will get P2,500 and P1,500, respectively. The fourth place will receive P1,000.
Yeen said the participants may submit their piece starting this week up to June 30, 2009. The criteria for judging: Grammar, 30 percent; organization of ideas, 30 percent; and relevance to the theme, 40 percent.
The guidelines are as follows: entries should be typewritten or computerized (double space); not less than 300 words; and send your entries with name, address, signature, age and contact number. Yeen said the entries must be submitted at the Salapungan Barangay Hall in Diego St.
