The ordinance also provides for a speeding limit along the 57-kilometer national highway from the town of Dinalupihan to Hermosa, Orani, Samal, Abucay, Balanga City, Pilar, Orion, Limay and Mariveles.
“Bawal sa gitna o fast lane ang mga motorsiklo at tricycle. Sa dulo, sa kanang bahagi sila para ang malalaking sasakyan sa gitna,” MBDA general manager Carlos Pizarro, Jr. said. Motorcycles and tricycles should stay and use the rightmost portion of the highway except to overtake.
Violators will be apprehended and charged for reckless driving, he said. Pizarro said that there are many motorcycles and tricycles passing through the national highway.
“Malaking porsiyento ng aksidente sa Roman Expressway dahil sa motorsiklo at tricycle kaya ang pakiusap namin sundin ang ordinansa,” he said.
Some portions of the expressway in the first district have already been widened to six lanes.
Pizzaro said Gov. Albert Garcia has requested the Department of Public Works and Highways to turn the entire length of the expressway into eight lanes.
“Kapag naging eight lanes, pag-aaralan namin kung pwedeng bigyan ng special lane ang mga motorsiklo at tricycle kaya lang ang problema may batas na bawal ang tricycle sa national road,” the GM said.
“Ang mga plano ni GM Pizarro ay immediate at short term solution para magamit agad at mabawasan ang aksidente sa highway,” Gov. Garcia said.
The speeding ordinance limits the speed of trucks to a maximum of 50 kilometers per hour and minimum of 40 KPH; buses, jeepneys and UV Express at maximum of 70 KPH and minimum of 40 KPH; cars, AUVs and SUVs at maximum of 80 KPH and minimum of 60 KPH and motorcycles at maximum of 60 KPH and minimum of 40 KPH.
Using the expressway aside from light vehicles are passenger buses and heavy trucks, fuel and LPG tankers getting materials from oil depot, refi nery and various companies in Limay and Mariveles towns.
