The center aims to provide the region’s diabetic and obese population with customized patient care and access to multidisciplinary team approach to healthcare.
The two-day grand launch was held last May 5 and 6 where TMC-C doctors, managers and staff and guests from other health institutions were present. Among the doctors who attended the event were Dr. Oliver Paul Chan, TMC-C medical director; Dr. Carlo Rodrigo Carreon, chairperson for Diabetes Services and Head of Department of Endocrinology; Dr. Danilo Del Rosario, chairperson for Nutrition Services; Dr. Sir Emmanuel Astudillo, chairperson for Weight Management Services together with Douvy Soliman, diabetes nurse educator; and Jemaly Mangosan, clinical dietician.
Dr. Nemencio Nicodemus Jr., immediate past president of Philippine Society Endocrinology and Metabolism, was the keynote speaker.
A forum about beating diabetes was later held where participants of TMCC’s Weight Loss Challenge were also invited. They were announced as official contestants of the Weight Loss Challenge during the launch of the center.
The Diabetes, Nutrition and Weight Management Services Center brings together competent and compassionate members of the multidisciplinary team of endocrinologists, nutritionists, bariatric surgeons, nephrologists, ophthalmologists (retina specialists), cardiologists, plastic surgeons, neurologists, psychiatrists, thoracic cardiovascular surgeon, orthopedics, diabetes nurse and clinical dietician dedicated to provide comprehensive management of diabetes and its complications.
The center offers services such as General DM education, Insulin Therapy, DM complications and presentations, DM lifestyle management, Diet counselling and weight loss management.
Dr. Nicodemus highlighted the importance of co-management in their practice considering TMC-C houses the first and only center in the region dedicated to the prevention and management of diabetes and its complications.
According to Philippine Diabetes Statistics, diabetes is known to be one of the top 10 leading causes of death in the country.
The Diabetes, Nutrition and Weigh Management Services Center is designed to be a one-stop shop for patients with diabetes and those at risk of developing the disease.
The center is located at the 2nd floor, Room 223, The Medical City Clark. It is open from Monday to Sunday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
