ANGELES CITY – More than 2,000 runners, mostly cops from Camp Olivas and students from various schools, colleges and universities here, on Sunday morning joined the fun run with a cause dubbed as Pulayan, Tagalan king Dalan 2010.
“It’s about fun, sweat and excitement,” said Carlo Puno, a community relations officer of the National Housing Authority after finishing the 5-kilometer run.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, Councilor and Edu Pamintuan graced the event and awarded winners of the 10-km, 5-km and 3-km category.
Some 300 police and trainees in Camp Olivas also joined the fun run. The team received an award for having the most number of participants.
This police chief, Senior Supt. Danny Bautista, city information office staff Larry Miguel and Jay Pelayo, and employees of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., all finished the 5-km run.
Architect Neil Licayan, chairman of the Pampanga Fitness Aces who organized the event in partnership with the Angeles City government, said that the proceeds of the fun run will be donated to the Duyan ni Maria foundation in barangay Malabañas here.
“We did not expect that it would exceed our expectation but for sure we will be organizing more fun runs with a cause like this,” he said.
Mayor Pamintuan and Edu vowed to organize more fun runs in the city, targeting at least 10,000 runners and enthusiasts in December and early next year. He said proceeds will be used for the Save Sapang Balen Creek project.
