Special Mass for Henry Sy attended by SM employees
SM employees nationwide gathered together to honor the life and pay tribute to Tatang Henry Sy Sr. as one SM Family, through a simultaneous funeral mass service across different business units on January 24, 2019.
When the news broke out that the Sy family confirmed the passing of the business tycoon and philanthropist Henry Sy, 94, on Saturday January 19, countless accolades with hashtags #ThankYouTatang were expressed most especially in social media. He was fondly called Tatang by the whole SM family including the SM employees, SM Scholars, SM beneficiaries to different projects and those whose lives have been touched by him.
Henry Sy Sr. is the owner of SM which is a leading Philippine company that is invested in market leading businesses in retail, banking and property. It also invests in ventures that can capture the high growth opportunities in the emerging Philippine economy. It looks for market leaders or those with potential to become leaders in their chosen sectors that offer synergies and attractive returns and cashflows.
Sy is not only a retail magnate, but also a philanthropist having the SM Foundation which provides college scholarship, medical-dental mission and livelihood trainings and programs.
With this, the family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to Tatang’s beloved scholarship program through SM Foundation.
