VETERAN ACTRESS Sylvia Sanchez tied with Angela Cortez for the Best Actress Award in the 2019 5th Sinag Maynila Indie Film Fest.

Sylvia won for her movie “Jesusa” while Angela for “Jino To Marie” In her acceptance speech Sylvia humbly said…

Masarap yung nandito ka, nagpapasalamat at hawak mo ‘to [tropeo].’

And on stage facing Angela the actress said…

“Iyong aktres in the true sense of the word.”

She also mentioned that receiving trophies would even make her a better actress.

“Jesusa” is a film set in a rundown community where she leads a normal life until circumstances drag her to be swallowed by the low lives of her neighbor. The movie is set in a shanty town where drug abuse is prevalent and difficult family dramas are a norm. The premise of the film revolves around a simple woman who leads a rather “ordinary life” with her philandering husband.

LEA SALONGA wants new Darna to be morena or kayumanggi so they can “represent the darker skinned Pinays.”

Lea Salonga expressed her hopes that ABS-CBN and Star Cinema will select a Darna who is morena or kayumanggi.

In her Twitter account, the Broadway actress posted:

“So, what would I love to see as Darna? Someone morena or kayumanggi to represent the darker skinned Pinays to let them know they are powerful and beautiful exactly as they are. I’d also love for her to be a relative unknown. Let the story sell the film. That is all.”

Former Darna director Erik Matti comforted Liza by saying that she should not cry over this missed opportunity.

He posted his photo with Liza and wrote in the caption:

“Surprised to hear about @lizasoberano letting go of #Darna You would have been great for the part. I wish you all the best. Defi nitely, there’s life after Darna. Take care always, Hope. Don’t cry no more.”

Direk Erik first worked on the Darna movie in 2014 but in October 2018, he left the project because of “creative differences” with ABS-CBN and Star Cinema.

That same month, it was announced that Jerrold Tarog is the new director of Darna.
