Son of village chief candidate shot dead

    ABUCAY, Bataan- A son of a candidate for punong barangay captain in Bataan was shot dead by still unidentified men at the corner of a gasoline station along the Roman Superhighway here at dawn of Wednesday.

    Senior Insp. Christopher Francis Siriban, Abucay police chief, identified the victim as Nomer De Dios, 28, married, construction worker of Gabon in Abucay.

    “Patuloy pa ang imbistigasyon ng pulisya sa pangyayari,” Siriban said. Siriban said the victim was last seen walking alongside the highway when a gasoline attendant saw a motorcycle crossed the road and heard two gun shots at about 1:40 a.m.. The witness then saw the victim lying on the ground with gunshot wounds on the head, the police chief said.

    Police officers immediately responded to the crime scene and rushed De Dios to the Bataan General Hospital but an attending physician declared him dead at 3:20 of the same morning. Siriban said. Guillermo De Dios said he did not know of any enemy of his son. “Kasa-kasama ko pang nangangampanya ang anak ko,” the father said.

    The elder De Dios was Gabon barangay kagawad for two terms or six years and running for punong barangay in the October 28 election. The father said he received information that his son was talking to four men.

    “Pinalo ng kung anong bagay sa mukha ang anak ko at nakatakbo pero naabutan malapit sa gasoline station at doon binaril,” he said. He said his son sustained a gunshot wound from still unknown caliber on the forehead that excited at the back in the head.

    “May pakikisama naman ako, bakit buhay ang kinuha sa anak ko na hindi naman masamang tao. Anong konsensiya meron ang mga taong iyan? Humihingi ako ng katarungan,” the father said almost in tears.
