ANGELES CITY – The city government under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. is set to distribute P1,000 financial assistance to registered indigent solo parents here this October.
This was revealed by Lazatin’s Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, who said that the city’s newly-appointed focal person for solo parents affairs – Rebecca Peñaranda — is now in the process of identifying solo parents in the 33 barangays.
“Nais po ni Mayor Lazatin na maabot lahat ng sektor ng komunidad, at mabigyan sila ng mga karampatang tulong,” Calaguas furthered.
Peñaranda on Sunday, Oct. 3, said 706 solo parents in the 20 barangays were already identified and attended the orientation being conducted.
The orientation was also being supervised by Social Welfare Officer II Anne Ley Patio.
The visitation in the remaining 13 barangays will follow suit this week, according to Patio.
On the other hand, Peñaranda also shared that this move of Mayor Lazatin is just proof that the solo parents’ sector has a leader who can be count on.
“A leader who is willing to support his people. Isang patunay na may malalapitan na ang ating mga solo parents. Salamat po sa suporta,” she said.
The cash assistance would be of great help to them, Peñaranda added.
“Ang pagkukusa ni mayor na magbigay ng 1,000 pesos cash assistance sa mga indigent solo parents ngayung buwan ng October ay napakalaking tulong,”she said.
“He is such a generous Mayor! Napakarami po ang natulungan at natuwa. Sa hirap ng buhay ngayon, there are still people who are caring and unselfish,” Peñaranda furthered.
Meanwhile, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Edna Duaso said as soon as Mayor Lazatin took office in 2019, the CSWDO has been releasing IDs for the members of the solo parents community to allow them to avail of the benefits they are entitled to.
Among also the beneficiaries of the livelihood program of the city government are solo parents, particularly in the Angeleño First Facemask livelihood project.
During the lockdown period, P1,000 cash aid to 5,000 members of the solo parents community were also given, amounting to P5 million.
