PALAYAN CITY – Limang barangay sa Maria Aurora, Aurora na apektado ng bakbakan sa pagitan ng militar at mga rebeldeng New People’s Army (NPA) ang pinasok kahapon ng mga opisyales ng sandatahang lakas ng Pilipinas at ng local government unit.
Ngunit sa halip na kagamitang pang-giyera, mga gamot at iba pang tulong ang bitbit ng mga may-kapangyarihan sa mga barangay ng Decoliat, San Juan, Dianawan, Punglo at Galintuja, pawing sa bayan ng Maria-Aurora.
Kasama ng mga sundalong duktor, dentist at nurses ang kanilang mga kapwa health practitioners mula sa Municipal Health Office (MHO) sa pagsasagawa ng libreng medical-dental services para sa mga residente, ayon kay Major Lito Pangatungan, information officer ng 702nd Infantry Brigade ng Philippine Army.
Sinabi ng opisyal na batay sa resulta ng misyon, ubo at sipon ang pangkaraniwang sakit sa mga lugar na nabanggit. Kasunod nito ay ang hypertension, urinary track infections, iron deficiency anemia, intestinal parasitism, at hyper-acidity.
Umaabot sa 800 pasyente ang nakinabang sa medical mission na ginanap sa plasa ng Barangay San Juan, ani Pangatungan. Tinampukan din ito ng parlor games para sa mga kabataan.
Sinabi ni Lt. Col. Melquiades Feliciano, commander ng 71st Infantry Battalion (71-IB) na nagsasagawa ng operasyon sa naturang lugar, na tuloy-tuloy din ang programang pang-kamulatan ng kanyang tropa upang buksan sa taumbayan ang “deceptive activities” ng Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
“There are issues and concerns of the local populace that is being manipulated by the NPA. These issues and concerns can be addressed through constant dialogue and coordination with government agencies. Once open communications will be established, these issues and concerns will be addressed, and eventually, the Communist Terrorists will lose influence on this barangays” pahayag ni Feliciano.
Pinapurihan ni Brig. Gen. Bautista, commander of Army Forces, ang suporta ng local na pamahalaan ng Maria Aurora, Aurora at opisyales ng barangay sa mga apektadong lugar.
“The military needs the help of the other sectors of society in order to end insurgency. We are thankful for the support of the Maria Aurora Local Government as well as the barangay officials of the five barangays. With their help, I am sure we will achieve our mandated tasks” dagdag ni Bautista.
