Baby items at Alion barangay hall
MARIVELES, Bataan — The village council of Alion, an upland village here, not only thought of the welfare of adults but babies, too, in this time of crisis brought about by the coronavirus disease.
Alion punong barangay Al Balan on Wednesday said they have also to consider the children of villagers who are out of work due to the enhanced community quarantine.
“Hindi malaman ng mga magulang kung saan sila kukuha ng panggastos sa kanilang mga baby sa panahong ito ng pandemic kaya naisipan namin ang proyektong ito upang makatulong na maibsan ng kahit kaunti ang kanilang problema,” the village head said.
He said their target was about 280 newborn babies up to five years old whose needs are not included in food packs commonly distributed by government.
With the help of donors, Balan said they have prepared baby diapers, milk, biscuits, vitamins, hotdogs, champorado, lugaw, quail eggs which are ready for distribution as soon as they finish packing.
He said that they have already started cooking champorado and lugaw for breakfast of children thatalso benefitted adults in 800 households. They also served to the villagers suman, cooked cassava, and camote raised in the village.
Members of the barangay council, barangay tanod and volunteers have also slaughtered pigs donated by some hog raisers and prepared for lunch of the residents.
Last week, Balan with members of barangay council and tanod distributed food packs and alcohol, leaving the items on chairs and benches placed by villagers outside their homes to avoid hand contact and observe social distancing.
