MALOLOS CITY—Is this an omen of things to come?
For the second straight night rain fell in Bulacan giving relief to residents suffering from long dry spell, but it also almost drive away thousands of people who attended the Nacionalista Party’s Rockatropa concert here on Thursday night.
At the same time, the rain again failed to increase water stored at the Angat Dam as its water elevation continue to recede.
For their part, farmers said they needed more rain to sustain their crops noting that rain fall in the last two nights were not enough.
As early as 5 p.m. on Thursday, rains started to fall in Obando, Marilao, San Jose Del Monte, Bocaue, Plaridel and Guiguinto towns, all in the southern part of this city.
Downpour continued until it covered the most part of the province.
In some towns like in Hagonoy and Paombong, the rain led drainage canals to overflow.
Like the rain that fell on Wednesday night, it drench parch lands and provided relief to Bulakenyos. But for organizers of the Nacionalista Party’s Rockatropa concert at the Bulacan Sports Complex (BSC) here, it provided a little dread.
Wendell Tamayo, secretary general of the Partido Malolenyo, a locally organized political party allied with the NP said attendees to the said concert rushed BSC grandstand for cover.
He said more than 5,000 people, some of them were children flocked to the BSC open field as early as 4 p.m. to watch the concert which was also designed as a miting de avance of the Partido Malolenyo with NP national stalwarts.
“Mukhang minalas, ang lakas ng ulan,” Tamayo said but stressed that after the attendees made it to the BSC grandstand, the program continued.
This was confirmed by staffs of some NP senatorial candidates who stayed at the BSC late night.
However, sources said that the concert was not successful as expected because the BSC grandstand is more than 100 meters away from the covered stage constructed by the event organizers.
