ANGELES CITY – The long wait is almost over and motorists going here and to nearby City of San Fernando can heave a sigh of relief.

Workers rush to finish the Pulung Bulu bridge here in time for the fiesta celebration on October 10, said First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin yesterday.

“The bridge is done. They are just finishing the approaches,” said Lazatin.

He said “the bigger and tougher” bridge at boundaries of Barangays Pulung Bulu and Sto. Domingo is expected to improve the flow of traffic along MacArthur Highway.

For his part, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said he had asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to speed up the construction of the bridge in time for the twin fiesta celebration of this city on Sunday and October 29. He added that he had been told by the DPWH that it will open on October 8.

“So we will truly have a fruitful fiesta minus traffic,” he said.

Lazatin said the budget used amounted to P85-million which he had asked from then president and now Second District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The four-lane bridge was funded early this year and the construction started last summer.

Lazatin said the completion of the bridge was about one month ahead of schedule. It was supposed to be completed on November 28.

“Our projects are those which can greatly benefit the majority of our constituents,” said Lazatin.

The congressman added that he had also worked closely with Pamintuan on which infrastructure projects they need to prioritize.
