CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Central Luzon kicked off Wednesday its celebration of the 2019 Civil Registration Month.

Anchored on the theme “Inclusive and Responsive Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS): Working Smarter Through Innovation”, the PSA is mandated by Republic Act 10625 to carry out, enforce and administer civil registration functions in the country.

“The formal opening of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Month enhances public awareness on the importance of civil registry documents and produces accurate, complete and updated vital statistics of every Filipino,” PSA Regional Director Edgardo G. Pare said.

Civil Registry is the mandatory recording of permanent records of vital events in the life of a person such as birth, marriage, and death. Also, legal instruments, and judicial orders affecting his or her civil status in appropriate registers as mandated by the Civil Registry laws.

Meanwhile, PSA still adheres to the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Decade Proclamation in 2015 as a pledge of support to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific of  “getting everyone in the picture” among citizens in Asia and the Pacific Region and a sound CRVS that will facilitate rights of the people, support good governance, health and development.

He added that the Philippines’ Civil Registry System is better than other countries because it lists about 93 percent of registered births.

“For Central Luzon alone, we have about 90-97% of registered births. This is a big help in monitoring the regional population,” he furthered.

Registered death records in the region is around 80%, higher than others because the regional office implements a “No Death Registration, No Interment” policy, following provisions in the Sanitation Code of the Philippines.

PSA lined-up activities include a lecture on the Updates on Civil Registration Laws and Policies on Issuances of Civil Registration Documents and the 3rdCRVS Interactive Challenge. – PIA 3
