DINALUPIHAN, Bataan- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC)  on Wednesday distributed relief goods to 900 families in Sta. Isabel, one of the heavily flood-stricken barangays here.

Carissa Coscoluela, one of the PRC governors, said this was in addition to 1,500 families, also from Dinalupihan, who received last week relief assistance from the agency.

“Tentative sa September 4, may isa pang relief project ang Red Cross sa Bataan,” she said, adding that relief distributions are also on-going in Cavite, Laguna,  Rizal and other areas.

“All funds of the PRC come from donations from volunteers, international agencies and international Red Cross societies and fund-raising activities like the fund-raising concert of Lea Salonga this Wednesday night in Manila,” Coscoluela said.

Gwendolyn Pang, PRC secretary-general, said per order of the agency’s chairman, Sen. Richard Gordon, P1 million-worth of relief goods have been poured in Bataan since the height of tropical storm Maring and the monsoon rains.

She said that each pack of relief goods that is good for meals of an ordinary family for two days is worth P250 – P300, exclusive of shipping and handling fees. A pack contains five kilos of rice, four canned goods and four noodle packs.

“Bukod diyan, may  health program sa adults at psycho-social sports program sa mga bata para madama nila na kahit binaha at binagyo, espesyal pa rin sila sa Red Cross,” Pang said.

Bataan Gov. Albert Garcia and sister Dinalupihan Mayor Gila Garcia, Red Cross Bataan chapter manager Jenelene Viesca,  volunteers and members of React assisted Pang and Coscoluela in the distribution of relief goods.

“Maging handa tayong lagi sa mga kalamidad para malayo tayo sa disgrasya,” the provincial governor told residents.

Garcia has placed the entire province under the state of calamity.
