PPC confers awards to cabalens in 67th anniversary

    CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Outstanding personalities from the different sectors of society in the region who are able to rise above their fields making them worthy of emulation will be highlighted in today’s 67th anniversary celebration and induction of new officers of the Pampanga Press Club (PPC).

    The ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. at The Encore of the Century Resorts in Balibago, Angeles City where the PPC will confer awards to:

    1. Chief Supt. Rudy Lacadin, PNP Central Luzon Regional Director, for his innovative approach against criminality;

    2. Visionary businessman Irineo “Bong” Alvaro for leading an enterprise that not only provides employment to thousands, but also ushers in a new landscape at the Clark Freeport Zone as well as for his excellence, competence and professionalism that have catapulted him to the aerie of executive leadership;

    3. Mel Soto who is one of the prime movers of free college education in Mabalacat City that helped established the Mabalacat City College now providing quality education to the poorest students;

    4. Youthful golf sensation Annyka Chanel “Cha” Pineda Cayabyab for serving as the newest and youngest source of pride after winning a series of prestigious golf tournaments in the Philippines and abroad, earning even a recognition from the Philippine Senate;

    5. International boxing referee Bruce McTavish for being a noble at heart and being more Filipino than most as the only Philippine representative to have been named World Boxing Council Referee of the Year in 2013 and 2015;

    6. Dr. Agnes Magana- Gaddi for promoting maternal health care towards safe pregnancy and birthing and making it accessible to women;

    7. Master sculptor Wilfredo Layug for his excellence in ecclesiastical arts that have won international acclaim and training young people in sculpture and helping sustain the legacy of woodcarving in the old district of Betis in Guagua town;

    8. The Men of Light for creating a virtual parish that shares the Gospels in more than 200 cable television and radio channels and via online since 2003, reaching overseas Filipino workers and providing the Roman Catholic Church a successful template in media apostolate sustained only by volunteers;

    9. The Kapampangan Development Foundation, an NGO, for its charitable works that have provided poor people with artificial legs, crutches or wheelchairs; for providing free surgery to folk with cleft palates, for holding free regular check-ups for pregnant women and even for promoting agricultural productivity through seedlings distribution; and

    10. Judge Angelica Paras-Quiambao for her zeal in dispensing justice and holding aloft a torch of moral uprightness that provides hope amid the tarnished image of the judiciary that justice can still thrive.

    Also to be cited as Presidential Awardees are Vice Gov. Dennis G. Pineda, Atty. Emigdio “Dino” Tanjuatco III, and Mabalacat Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales.

    The Friends of Media are Manuel Sequeira (Fontana), Jonathan Nowell (Widus), and Charles Lim (Selrahco).

    The Darling of the Press are Viveca Singson (JG Summit); Sheryl Mamangun (Widus Hotel and Casino), Venus Manalang (SM City Clark), Rain Cervantes (SM City Pampanga), and Michelle Eve De Guzman (Cebu Pacific).

    Rep. Martin G. Romualdez, whose mother comes from Mabalacat City which makes him a true-blooded Kapampangan, will swear-in the new set of officers led by President Diosdado “Deng” Pangilinan of dwRW, EVP Noel Tulabut of Sun.Star Pampanga, VP for Print Minerva Arceo, VP for Broadcast Tonette Orejas of the Philippine Daily Inquirer and CLTV-36, Secretary Astrud Aguinaldo of CLTV36, Treasurer Ashley Manabat of Punto Central Luzon, and Auditor Rendy Isip.

    The PPC Board of Directors are Chair Eric Jimenez of The Angeles Observer, Diosdado “ Ding” Cervantes of the Philippine Star, Arnel San Pedro of Headline Gitnang Luzon and Airports of the World (UK), Rey Navales of Sun.Star Pampanga and Jojo Due of Business Mirror and The Angeles Observer.

    Also to be inducted are the new PPC members led by Ria De Fiesta, Marna Dagumboy- Del Rosario, Charlene Cayabyab and JP Manalang, all of Headline Gitnang Luzon; Jess Malabanan of Interaksyon; Ric Gonzales of Business Week; Joey Pavia of Business Week and Business Mirror; and Sonnie Canlas of PEPTV.

    The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation’s Casino Filipino-Angeles and Century Resorts Hotel will sponsor the 67th PPC Induction Ceremonies.
