District collector Maritess T. Martin
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — Bureau of Customs personnel of the Port of Subic displayed their team efforts in their quest to prove that working together even during crisis time will yield positive results even under strict lockdown measures.
While some units of the country’s second revenue collection agency suffered revenue collection decline, the Subic unit under the leadership of district collector Maritess T. Martin held its revenue collection performance by meeting its targets for the month of April and May at the height of the coronavirus lockdown period.
With adjusted targets set by Aduana, the Port was able to raise P1,780,967,026 in April, 8.79 percent more than its target of P1,637,000,000 or P143,967,026 over. Last month, the district accomplished P1,748,181,589cash collections or 11.70 percent more than its target P1,565,000,000 or P183,181,589 over.
During the early month of 2020 that Port whose consistent target hitting performance in 2019 was meted by Aduana the challenging task of collecting additional one billion pesos collection monthly. But due to the pandemic economic scenario, BOC was forced to make drastic adjustments of its revenue target settings among the country’s ports.
Martin and Team Subic were granted recognition for their outstanding revenue collection performance for 2019 by the Department of Finance and BOC and awarded with an Achievement Award.
Aware that the coronavirus crisis will affect its performance due to strict quarantine measures on incoming cargo vessel, BOC Subic in cooperation with the terminal operator Subic Bay International Terminal Corp. and the SBMA Seaport Department initiated measures to ease cargo handling and releases to ensure its attractiveness to port users.
