MAKATI CITY – The “MVP” of business – Manuel V. Pangilinan – has categorically stated that he will not run for president or seek any elective post in 2010.

In interviews with provincial reporters shortly after the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) annual stockholders meeting here on Tuesday, PLDT Chairman Pangilinan said “we have no plan at all” to seek an elective post.

“I have no Sharon Cuneta,” added Pangilinan in a jest when asked by Pampanga mediamen if he will join  vice presidential-wannabe Sen. Francis Pangilinan in the next national elections scene.

Earlier, Pampanga Vice Gov. Joseller “Yeng” Guiao endorsed Pangilinan, a native of Apalit town, for president, saying “he fits to a T what this country needs: good manager.”

Guiao said he would like another Kapampangan as RP’s chief executive after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo but “not Gov. (Eddie) Panlilio,” who earlier expressed plans to seek the presidential post.

Guaio, in a phone interview yesterday, expressed hopes that Pangilinan would reconsider his plans not join the presidential race. He added that “I endorsed him not only because he is a fellow Kapampangan but he is well-qualified.”

“MVP’s track record speaks for itself,” said Guiao, adding that what the country needs is “someone who will trigger economic progress.”

Guaio said Pangilinan could have “healed the division among the political parties because he is respected by both the administration and opposition.”

But Guiao said Pangilinan should “be firm on his decision now if he will run for president because it might be too late later.”

“We could, however, do something about it if he doesn’t want to run for president,” added Guiao.
